Steel Piering is one of the strongest solutions for the most severe problems.
When foundations have drastically shifted because of changes in the terrain below a house, the house can begin to sink in areas. This creates an unleveled foundation, and the results begin to show above ground. The highest levels of the house are often the first to show the effects.
Are you seeing these problems? (they usually start at the highest elevations first)
- Windows that won’t open or close properly (sticking)
- Doors that won’t open or close properly (sticking)
- Cracks or gaps in the interior or exterior walls, ceilings, or floors
- Cracks in the brick or sheetrock
- Visible shifts in the foundation or surrounding concrete
- Leaning Chimney
Sinking Foundations can be rescued and raised by securing bracing to underground bedrock and adjusting the house’s levels evenly. This procedure is called Steel Piering.
How does it work?
Visualize a beach house on stilts.
Steel piering is like installing stilts that are entirely underground and fastened to the bedrock below a house. Once these piers are attached to a solid foundation, they are used to evenly and slowly elevate the sunken foundation portions to be level with the non-sunken portions.
The concept is similar to jacking up a car to change a spare tire. If you were pulled over in soft mud you would have a problem, so finding a solid base to push again is essential. By connecting these steel rods with the stable bedrock, a house of up to 4 stories can be lifted level.
These steel piers are left attached to the house and underground bedrock to keep the house permanently leveled.
